Yao Ming is a retired Chinese professional basketball player. He was born on September 12, 1980 in Shanghai, China. He played for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was considered as the tallest active player of NBA before he retired with a height of 7 feet and 6 inches. He first played for the Shanghai Sharks when he was a teenager. He then played for 5 years in the Chinese Basketball Association wherein he won in the final year as a champion.
He was then selected by the Houston Rockets in NBA. Yao was included in the All-NBA Team for 5 times, attained NBA Playoffs 4 times and then won the first-round series in 2009 with the Houston Rockets. Yao retired from basketball due to several foot injuries. Yao currently ranks top 6 in the franchise leaders for the total points, total rebounds, and second in block categories.
